The Best Places to See Vintage Florida Art

You may or may not know this, but the Gulfport/St. Pete area is one of the best art areas around. We have galleries dedicated to world-renowned artists, such as Salvador Dali (The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg) and the Morean Arts Center’s absolutely jaw-dropping collection of Dale Chihuly’s glass sculptures (The Morean Arts Center’s Chihuly Collection).

Love art?  Well, so do we!  Download your FREE Gulfport Vacation Guide and learn more about the best artwork Gulfport and St. Pete have to offer!

Where to Find Vintage Florida Art

But it’s not all world-renowned artists. The Gulfport area has plenty of vintage Florida art to offer, too.

A prime example is here at the Historic Peninsula Inn. Recently, we hired Keith Stillwagon to come in and rework a mural. We’ve included sample pictures above and below:

Mr. Stillwagon, if you’re unaware, is a renowned muralist here in Gulfport. As you can see, he creates truly vibrant, breathtaking murals. You can see more of his work on the Historic Peninsula Inn on our Facebook page.

If you’re interested in other local, independent artists, be sure to check out the Gulfport Art Walk. The Art Walk takes place every month on the first Friday and third Saturday from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m., all year long. You’ll walk along beautiful Beach and Shore Boulevards, perusing handcrafted works from local artists.

And while you’re down there, don’t miss out on our local galleries and art studios!  We’re including some of our favorite Gulfport shops:

Pitzen Studios: Tom Pitzen is an artist and designer who creates beautiful sculptures from mosaic tile and metal.  His studio is open during Art Walks, special events, and by appointment. If you get a chance, give him a look!

Mermaid Bay Mercantile: Mermaid Bay Mercantile offers a varied selection of goods (housewares, jewelry, and produce), but also handmade, one-of-a-kind artwork.

And that’s only looking at the vintage Florida art on display in our fun, eclectic little Gulfport. We haven’t even touched on St. Petersburg, which is widely renowned as one of the southeast’s great art destinations. To learn more about those, download our FREE Gulfport Vacation Guide!

After Perusing Gulfport’s Amazing Art…

After a day out and about, looking at the beautiful artwork on display, head back to the Historic Peninsula Inn for a delicious meal at Isabelle’s. Isabelle’s is our own on-site restaurant, featuring award-winning New Southern cuisine.  There’s a reason Rand McNally awarded it their Best of the Beaches and Best of the Road awards!  We hope you’ll come find out.

And once dinner’s complete, retire to your beautiful suite here at the Inn.  We offer a wide variety of accommodations perfect for all kinds of travelers, from the businessman in town for the week, to the couple enjoying a sunny getaway, to the family of four touring beautiful Old Florida.  Whatever you need, there’s a good chance we have it!

We’ll even accept your four-legged child!
