A giant wooden bar rolls past you on the street, a dozen or so people talking and laughing with a mug or wine glass in their hand. No, you’re not seeing things; that really is a bar cycling past you. That bar-on-wheels is what’s known as a “pedal pub,” and it’s a fun new experience offered by Pedal Pub St. Pete.

The purpose of that contraption is, to quote Pedal Pub St. Pete, “a fun, safe, eco-friendly way for groups of 6 to 16 adults to get some light exercise and fresh air while touring interesting parts of our city. You and your friends will power this big Dutch-made bike while pedaling, singing, drinking, and having an all around great time!” It’s recommended that participants bring their own beer or wine (no liquor permitted) on their two-hour tour of the city.
Speaking of tours, you have multiple options:
- Pub Crawls: This takes you on a tour of some of the best pubs in the area.
- Waterfront Tours: Visit St. Pete’s scenic waterfront, pedaling along the local airstrip, the Salvador Dali Museum, piers, shopping districts, parks, and more.
- Mural Tours: The Mural Tours take you to see 30 beautiful murals from the “SHINE” art project. You can see examples on the DowntownStPete website.
- Create Your Own Tour: If you know of a particular route you want to go, suggest it to the pedal pub. The bike is limited to going up very small hills, so some routes may not be physically possible.
This is, truly, one of the best and most innovative ways of viewing some of St. Pete’s attractions.
The pedal pub operates 7 days a week, with tours leaving at 4:00, 6:30, and 9:00 p.m. If you and friends plan on renting out the entire pub, it’s $385 on Friday and Saturday, and $325 Sunday through Thursday. Individual seats cost just $30 for the 2-hour tour.
All riders must be at least 18 years of age, and all alcohol-drinking passengers must be at least 21 years of age.
Interested parties can learn more about the St. Pete Pedal Pub on their Frequently Asked Questions page.
