If you’re looking for something fun to do in St. Petersburg, don’t miss out on the Mahaffey Theater! Before we delve into the Mahaffey Theater’s events schedule, let’s look at the theater itself. The theater, opened in 1965, sits in downtown St. Petersburg. It holds 2,031 spectators, and offers European-style box seating (as well as ballroom space). The theater underwent multiple renovations in the last 30 years, and is considered the Tampa Bay area’s preeminent performing arts venue.
The venue holds a variety of events, including (but not limited to) national and international musical performances, comedy shows, craft beer festivals, and even the renowned Florida Orchestra. This August and September, visitors to St. Petersburg will have some great options to attend.

While you’re out in downtown St. Petersburg, why not check out some of the other great sights? If you didn’t know, St. Petersburg is an arts mecca, playing host to the both the Salvador Dali Museum and the Morean Arts Center’s Chihuly Collection.
The Dali Museum plays host to more of Dali’s works than any place in America (and, in fact, any place in the world other than his hometown in Catalonia, Spain). According to the museum, it plays host to 96 oil paintings; over 100 watercolors and drawings; and 1,300 graphics, photographs, sculptures, and objets d’art. It also houses 7 of Dali’s 18 masterwork paintings (defined as a painting which is at least 5 feet in one dimension and took more than a year to complete). If you’d like more information, please visit the Dali Museum’s Collections page.
While there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Dali, you may not have heard of Chihuly. Dale Chihuly creates extraordinarily exquisite glass sculptures which truly must be seen to be believed. The facility is presently relocating to another location within St.Petersburg, but should be open again in the coming months. We strongly encourage all art lovers to give it a look!
After your fun Mahaffey Theater event, head back to your suite at the beautiful Historic Peninsula Inn.
