3 Boating Adventures You’ll Love at Hubbard’s Marina
Hubbard’s Marina overlooks Eleanor Island. It’s by the John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk, along the shore of the Boca Ciega Bay. The marina was named after Wilson Hubbard, a Memphis-born captain who caught and sold fish from the Pass-a-Grille pier (now known as the Merry Pier on Eighth Avenue) in the 1930s. At the age of 17, he bought five rowboats, and by the 1950s, he began offering day-long charters on the Gulf.
The operation was moved to John’s Pass in 1976. Captain Hubbard helped create the marina and village we know today, providing fishing activities, shopping, and dining. He also worked to preserve the bay through research and environmental efforts.
Day Cruise to Egmont Key
Are you looking for a fun day trip from Hubbard’s Marina? Take a cruise to the lovely island of Egmont Key. This 30-minute ferry ride gives you the chance to marvel at dolphins and sea turtles, so make sure you pack your camera! Once you set foot on the island, head to Fort Dade to learn more about Florida’s history. This monument dates back to the Spanish American era and piques the interest of all the history buffs!
Deep Sea Fishing
If you love fishing, then a Deep Sea Fishing charter is perfect for you. Get ready to catch local grey and mangrove snapper, red grouper, amberjack, and more! A five-hour day trip costs $55 and a ten-hour cruise is $90. You can even take a 12-hour excursion for $129. For the ultimate offshore experience, choose between a 39-hour trip ($369 + tax), a 44-hour trip ($469 + tax), or a 63-hour cruise ($840 + tax).
The Sunset Cruise from Hubbard’s Marina is a relaxing activity after a long day. Board one of the cruise boats and enjoy stunning sunset views of the bay while you sip a glass of wine. You might even see some dolphins swimming by the boat! This cruise is very popular, so we highly recommend booking 12- to 24-hours in advance. Each ticket is $26.50 (tax not included).
