“Best Cuban Food in Tampa Bay Area.”
Those are just a few of the awards won by the Habana Cafe in Gulfport, FL. The Habana Cafe offers authentic Cuban food with a twist: a dine-in art gallery upstairs. It’s truly one of the most delicious and unique dining experiences in all of Pinellas County!

It all starts with the food. This delicious Cuban cuisine is legendary throughout the Gulfport/St. Pete area. Enjoy fantastic appetizers, like lechon asado (pork roasted and seasoned), drunken shrimp (white wine, olive oil, garlic, onions, and mojo sauce), or their famous black bean soup! Afterward, perhaps you’ll want to try a nice Cuban sandwich, or one of their scrumptious entrees, like the arroz con pollo a la Chorerra (chicken cooked with Valencia rice in beer and wine, then seasoned with garlic, oregano, cumin, chopped onions, and bell peppers), or a nice filet of fried fish seasoned with garlic, oregano, and lime juice, then breaded in plantain chips (filete de pescado empanizado).
And for dessert? Flan. The owner, Jo Gonzalez-Hastings, entered her flan recipe in a Southern Living Cooking Contest in 1993. Out of 35,000 entries, the judges selected hers as their grand prize winner! High praise, indeed!
The Unique Atmosphere
Few restaurants offer a dine-in art gallery. The Habana Cafe, however, hosts a selection of Audubon prints and other works in their second-floor showroom. You can view examples of Audubon art on their website.
In short, visit the Habana Cafe for delicious appetizers and entrees, one of the world’s greatest dessert recipes, and walls full of beautiful art.
After dinner, head out for some fun at one of our local bars. We recommend checking out:
- O’Maddy’s – Everyone loves O’Maddy’s! This brilliant bar offers it all: an amazing atmosphere, ocean views, and some seriously good food made with fresh ingredients. Add in an extensive drink menu, live music, and karaoke nights, and you’ve got one of our favorite bars in Gulfport. It’s a great place to hang out on the outdoor patio and mingle with your new friends-to-be.
- Salty’s – Salty’s, like O’Maddy’s, has a big outdoor patio. It, however, focuses on great drinks, big screen TVs, and lots of games. This is the place to be if you’re looking for video games, pool tables, dart boards, or cornhole. It, too, offers live music several nights per week, oceanfront views, and a fun crowd of people.
And after your enjoyable night out, head back to the Historic Peninsula Inn for a good night’s sleep. We offer a variety of beautiful suites to accommodate all sorts of travelers, from the solo businessperson, to the couple on a romantic getaway, to the family of four exploring Old Florida. We’re even pet friendly!
